SAM2 Filter Installed at Primary School Inganji

Reported by Rebero Jean d'Amour, Story written by Amanda Mulder

In May, Water Project volunteers installed a SAM2 Community Filter at Primary School Inganji. They spoke with Odette, deputy head teacher at the school. They told us, "We are very happy to have received this filter because the school had problems of accessing safe drinking water. In fact, there is a water tap near the school, but water is not regularly available and children used to fetch water from Birra Lake each time tap water was not available. This caused sickness to children as we saw some vomiting in class. This filter will help children and staff to get clean water and there will not be any disease caused by drinking dirty water at this school."

Location:
Country: Rwanda
District: Ngoma
Sector: Rukumberi
Cell: Gituza
Village: Mfune
Solution:
SAM2 (Sand And Membrane) filters are large capacity solutions with a 10-year-plus lifespan. A SAM2 requires no electricity or fuel and has no moving parts, making it the ideal solution for rural areas. Schools and Health Clinics are trained how to use and maintain the filter, empowering them to be self-sufficient and address their own needs.
