103 SAM3 Filters Distributed

Reported by Rebero Jean d'Amour, Story written by Amanda Mulder

In April 2021, Water Project volunteers distributed 103 SAM3 household filters to selected families from Rukumberi. During the distribution, our staff talked with Jean Nepomuscene, one of the people who was receiving a filter for their family. Jean Nepomuscene told us, "I am very happy to have a SAM3 water filter at home because before getting it, I was using water from Birira Lake for domestic purposes. I had to boil that dirty water before drinking it, but this was a challenge because the money for buying firewood is too much and time for cooking dirty water. I will help my neighbors to filter water from the lake. I thank a lot all people who played a role in providing water filters to beneficiaries."

In addition, volunteers sifted and washed sand to prepare to distrubute additional filters in the coming months. They also visited 100 homes, 5 SAM2 community filters, and 11 rain water harvest systesms to check on the functionality of filters in Ngoma and Bugesera districts.
