Community Filter Installed at Primary School Rubona
Reported by Rebero Jean d'Amour, Story written by Amanda MulderIn April, a SAM2 Community Filter was installed at the Primary School Rubona. Our volunteers spoke with Eric, the head teacher at the school, who told us, "It is very important to have a water filter at this school. Before getting this SAM2 Filter, we used to drink dirty water from Akagera swamp, rain water, or from Sake and Birira Lakes. That dirty water was the cause of different diseases. This SAM2 will help school pupils and teachers, as well as people surrounding the school to have clean drinking water. People can also bring clean water to home to use for domestic purposes. I thank the Water Project for giving us this filter which will help to solve problems related to lake of clean water."

Solution:
SAM2 (Sand And Membrane) filters are large capacity solutions with a 10-year-plus lifespan. A SAM2 requires no electricity or fuel and has no moving parts, making it the ideal solution for rural areas. Schools and Health Clinics are trained how to use and maintain the filter, empowering them to be self-sufficient and address their own needs.
