SAM2 Filter Installed at School in Gituza

Reported by Rebero Jean d'Amour, Story written by Amanda Mulder

Jean Damascene is the head teacher at GS Gituza, a school that recently received a SAM2 Community Filter that will serve 400 students and teachers. Jean Damascene told us, "It is very important to receive a SAM2 filter at this school, because it will help to provide safe drinking water to learners, teachers, and other staff of the school. Learners will also take drinking water from the filter at home to make the communities aware of drinking clean water to avoid waterborne diseases. Before receiving this SAM2 filter, we used to drink water from the swamp around Akagera and rainwater, which was the cause of illness. I think the Water Project for giving us this filter, because it will help us to solve problems in this school."

Location:
Country: Rwanda
District: Ngoma
Sector: Rukumberi
Cell: Gituza
Village: Gituza
Solution:
SAM2 (Sand And Membrane) filters are large capacity solutions with a 10-year-plus lifespan. A SAM2 requires no electricity or fuel and has no moving parts, making it the ideal solution for rural areas. Schools and Health Clinics are trained how to use and maintain the filter, empowering them to be self-sufficient and address their own needs.
