Rain Water Harvesting System for Zion Temple Rukumberi

Reported by Rebero Jean d'Amour, Story written by Amanda Mulder

In December 2020, Water Project volunteers build at Rain Water Harvest System on the Zion Temple Rukumberi. Speaking to the Church Leader, Rene, he told us, "This water tank installed at our church will be used by church members and neighboring people to have access to rain water. Before the installation of the water tank, rainwater from the roof of the church build was not collected and could destroy the enviornment. Now I am happy because we will use rainwater from the installed tank and it will contribute to enviornmental protection."

Location:
Country: Rwanda
District: Ngoma
Sector: Rukumberi
Cell: Rubona
Village: Rwimpongo Ii
Solution:
We place these rainwater collection tanks at centrally-located churches, which shortens the walk for water and improves water quality. Churches sell the water at an affordable rate and use the income to maintain the system. Remaining funds are given to the poorest members of the community for school fees, health insurance, and other basic needs.
