SAM2 Filter Installed at GS Ntovi School

Reported by Rebero Jean d'Amour, Story written by Amanda Mulder

In December, Water Project volunteers installed a SAM2 Community Filter at the GS Ntovi School in the Rukumberi sector. While there, they spoke with Frederic, the head teacher at the school. He told us, "I am very happy to have a SAM2 filter at this school because it will help our pupils to have the access to safe drinking water. Before receiving this filter, we used dirty water from Mugersera Lake, which was the cause of illness in our pupils." He also told us that he wanted to send his thanks to those who provided this filter because it will reduce waterborne diseases for our students and teachers.

Location:
Country: Rwanda
District: Ngoma
Sector: Rukumberi
Cell: Ntovi
Village: Iyantende
Solution:
SAM2 (Sand And Membrane) filters are large capacity solutions with a 10-year-plus lifespan. A SAM2 requires no electricity or fuel and has no moving parts, making it the ideal solution for rural areas. Schools and Health Clinics are trained how to use and maintain the filter, empowering them to be self-sufficient and address their own needs.
