Three Day Training in Kagogo Sector

Reported by Consolée UWIMANA, Story written by Amanda Mulder

In August, Water Project staff led a three-day training for community health workers, local leaders, and volunteers to discuss the creation of 33 Community Hygiene Clubs in the Kagogo sector. The meeting was also attended by the Community Environmental Health Officer.

During the 3 day meeting, participants studied the Community Hygiene Club model as a way to engage communities to identify and address their communities' hygiene and sanitation needs to improve the wellbeing of the whole community, and in particular the health of young children who are most at risk.

Topics studied included common diseases, personal hygiene, hand washing, diarrhea, infant care, intestinal parasites, food hygiene, nutrition, water sources, sanitation practices, and more.

Not only was training on these topics provided to attendees, but attendees were also trained to provide these lessons and training to the wider community as the sector begins to create 33 community hygiene clubs in various villages.
