Community Filter Installed at Rubago Primary School

Reported by Rebero Jean d'Amour, Story written by Amanda Mulder

In March 2021, a SAM2 Communitty Filter was installed at the Primary School Rubago in Rukumberi sector of Rwanda. Our volunteers spoke with the Head Teacher from the school, named Augustin. They told us, "This is a very important activity to give a SAM2 to this school, as it will help us to solve problems related to drinking unclean water for learners, teachers and people surrounding the school. The filter will serve the pupils for drinking clean water at school and they shall also bring clean water home to enable family members to drink clean water. Before getting this SAM2, pupils were drinking dirty water from the swamp around Akagera River, rain water, and water from Sake Lake, which were causes of illness to the pupils. I thank you for this filter which will contribute to good health of pupils and teachers of Rubago Primary School."

Location:
Country: Rwanda
District: Ngoma
Sector: Rukumberi
Cell: Rubona
Village: Rugenda Ii
Solution:
SAM2 (Sand And Membrane) filters are large capacity solutions with a 10-year-plus lifespan. A SAM2 requires no electricity or fuel and has no moving parts, making it the ideal solution for rural areas. Schools and Health Clinics are trained how to use and maintain the filter, empowering them to be self-sufficient and address their own needs.
